General Meeting held February 3rd, 2010 at University Park Elementary School.
Meeting was opened at 7pm
Pat Cashen opened the meeting asking for any volunteers to be block captains for 2500 S. Columbine & 2400 S. Cook Blocks. More volunteers are also needed for the 4th of July & Sing and Sleigh Events. He also stated that the Denver Water building on University and Butchel have plans to add on to their facility, but will maintain its current look. Many residents have also noticed the slow process in the Observatory Park – Park renovation, but that has been due to the colder weather and will be completed soon.
The University Park Principal, Dana also made mention that she and the school are very thankful for the communities support over the years.
Teri Allsup is looking for volunteers for the May 2nd 2010, University Park home tour. There will be many 2hr shifts from 11am-5pm. Also, for those that grocery shop at King Soopers, Safeway, or Sun Flower Market to pick up gift cards at the school which will give up to 5% back to the school. Those can be purchased between 8-4pm, Monday –Friday in the school office.
Jane Queen who is the director of Accelerated Schools has been with them since 1979, but was promoted to Director in June of 2009. Her 3 main goals are: the school, the building, and the land. She and her staff would love to have the community stop by for a tour during business hours.
The zoning committee briefly discussed that they are in the final stages of reviewing the final draft, and a public meeting will be held on April 19th, 2010 to finalize everything. This process was started by the Mayor in 2005, and is being overseen by the City Council. There is more information on the city’s website.
There were quite a few neighbor comments to include:
- Compost program continued and/or expanded
- Hopes for change to zoning for the area(s) on Jerome Street
- Nominations for the Board Members to be held in May
- Butchel Street adding/subtracting stop lights
- Iliff and Colorado turn light(s)
