UPCC Board Meeting Minutes August 2010

Board of Directors Meeting held August 10th, 2010 at 2100 S. Monroe Street.

In Attendance: Tom Gonnella –President, June Morgan – Co-Treasurer, Mary Myers – Sidewalks, Diana Helper – Parks & Open Space, Rosemary Stoffel  – Historic Preservation,  Pat Cashen – Zoning, and Traci Samaras – Secretary.

June Meeting Minutes Approved with Changes.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer – June reported that she has received a few larger due payer checks.

Sidewalks – Mary reported that the Bond Issue Sidewalk Project on the south side of Buchtel Blvd. Pkwy. has completed the sidewalks from S. Monroe to S. St. Paul, and so they will start from S. Columbine to S. Josephine.  The request of the BBC (Buchtel Blvd./Pkwy. Coalition) to replace the traffic light at St. Paul with a 4-way stop, and stops at Clayton and Monroe, led the City to do a traffic study, but still no official report on the study.  The INC supports our proposal to have a citywide fee to pay for walks, rather than having the homeowners pay.

Parks & Open Space –Diana reminded us that the Tennis Courts are undergoing a renovation this month. The renovations should only take about a week, depending on the weather. There was also a unamanous vote taken to write a letter on behalf of UPCC to oppose the fee based park events.

Historic Preservation – Rosemary reported that a compromise was reached between the applicants for designation and DU regarding demolition of the East Wing of the Boettcher Center. It was agreed that a series of design charettes will be held to consider options which would honor the integrity and intent of the original design in the absence of the East Wing. The group will include representatives of DU, preservation organizations, and adjacent RNO’s.

Zoning – The marijuana store located next to Stanley Insurance on Evans/Milwaukee is being looked into. It appears that there was an oversight on the cities behalf and it was documented that a daycare inside the University Church of Christ was within the 1000ft boundary. More will follow.

Tom – Gathered up some ideas for speakers for the October 13th, 2010 General Meeting. He also reminded everyone that the newsletter deadline is August 20th. Paula Smith plans to attend the meeting, who will take over duties for the newsletter. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday -September 7th, 2010.
