UPCC Volunteer Opportunities

We are fortunate to live in a neighborhood cherished and supported by its residents. It takes many volunteers to keep University Park a vibrant and involved neighborhood.  Following are areas where the UPCC can use your help. If you are interested in getting more involved, please contact Traci Samaras at [email protected].

CURRENT OPENINGS

UPCC Events Chair or Events Committee Members

We are currently looking for both Events Committee Members and a UPCC Events Chair to spearhead and organize our two annual events: the 4th of July Parade and the December Sing & Sleigh. If you are interested or would like to know more, please email [email protected].

Help with UPCC 4th of July Parade

Every July 4th at 10 am in Observatory Park finds all the neighborhood kids in a bike parade. All children are welcome, and the VFW Band is on hand to make the day all the more patriotic. Following the parade, Denver Fire Station 24 lets loose with a pumper truck to help beat the heat and hose down the crowd. The following are ways you can help make the event happen:

  • Organization of event logistics (purchasing items, getting permits, etc.)
  • Pick up/drop off safety cones for the event (a truck or van is required)
  • Set up/take down cones along the parade route
  • Set up and serve refreshments on July 4th
  • Help get “Thank You” gift to the Fire Station

Help with UPCC Holiday Sing and Sleigh

On a Sunday in early December in the late afternoon, Observatory Park transforms into a winter wonderland, with horse-drawn hay rides for residents, live holiday music (provided by Swallow Hill), and cocoa and cookies donated by the UPCC, the University Park Mothers Club and local residents. Chamberlin Observatory is also open for night viewing of starlit skies. Volunteers are needed to:

  • Organize event logistics ahead of time (purchasing items, confirming all participants, etc.)
  • Set up and serve refreshments at the event
  • Monitor hay ride lines and star gazing lines
  • Help get “Thank You” gift to Santa

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer to serve on a UPCC Neighborhood Committee

The UPCC has several chair and committee positions focused around our neighborhood concerns. These areas include:

  • Open Space and Parks
  • Transportation
  • Safety
  • Communications
  • Archives
  • Preservation
  • Sidewalks

Chairs serve on the UPCC board and committee members serve the committee by attending meetings, doing research, being an additional voice for the neighborhood, etc. If you are interested in any of these areas, see list of Board Members for contacts and send the chair an email.

Sponsor/Serve Refreshments at a General Meeting

We are looking for refreshment sponsors at the three General Meetings. This can be a family, business or organization that will be recognized at the meeting and in other UPCC communications. If you are interested or would like more information, please email [email protected].

Graffiti Eradication Liaison

If you need supplies to paint a dumpster or clean a sign, email [email protected] and we can supply what you need to clean up our neighborhood. Additionally, we are looking for someone to:

  • Be the keeper of graffiti supplies in the neighborhood
  • Eradicate graffiti when you see it
  • Organize a neighborhood “Wipe Out Graffiti” day

Help with the UPCC Neighborhood Garage Sale

For the past several years volunteers have organized a neighborhood-wide garage sale in the early part of each summer. Help is always appreciated! Click for more details.

Organize a “Band in the Park”

In September 2011 the neighborhood celebrated its 125th anniversary with a celebration and band concert. Neighbors loved the event and the concert and we would love to find someone to organize this or other fun summer events for the neighborhood.

Organize a UPCC fundraising or other neighborhood event

In the past, residents have:

  • Hosted dinners
  • Organized progressive dinners
  • Organized a neighborhood mulch day
  • Any idea you have!

Create a Neighborhood Directory

Some residents have inquired about a neighborhood directory. Maybe you can be the person to make it happen!
