Neighborhood Announcements

Dear University Park Neighbor,

I hope your summer is off to a great start!  We have some fun neighborhood events coming up.  The Neighborhood Garage Sale is Friday and Saturday, June 7th and 8th.  If you want to participate or need a Salvation Army pick-up learn how here.  The July 4th Bike Parade and Pumper Truck Spray is 10am at Observatory Park so don your best red, white and blue and join in on the fun.  Late in the afternoon Saturday, August 17th, we will have our Band in the Park followed by Star Gazing at the Observatory. More details to come on that event.

The following are the announcements for June 2013.

  • The Neighborhood Garage Sale is Friday and Saturday, June 7 & 8.  Additional Details.
    • If you want to participate, be on the map and/or to get on the Salvation Army pick up schedule, email [email protected].
      • Include the following: name, address, phone, YES or NO for a Salvation Army donation/pickup
  • July 4th, 10am Neighborhood Bike Parade and Pumper Truck Spray. More details.
    • Children’s Parade at 10am, VFW Band provides music and University Park Mothers Club will be providing refreshments, hot dogs and cool treats.
    • We still need a few volunteers to help set up at 9am and take down at 11:30am.  Email [email protected] if you can help make this fun event happen.
  • Prairie Park Updates

  • We need you to get involved in our neighborhood. Here are some ways:
    • The UPCC is looking for someone to champion sidewalks in our neighborhood.  Email [email protected] to learn more.
    • Do you like the UPWords delivered to your door five times a year? We need help with delivery on the following blocks.Learn more about the system.

  • Insider Info:  The week of  May 12th, you may have seen film crews in University Park.  The movie being filmed is “A Remarkable Life.” Learn more about the movie.
  • FREE Denver Youth Summer Ultimate (Frisbee) kicks off Wednesday July 3rd at Observatory Park for kids ages 9-16. Learn more and sign up.
  • No new confirmed retailers for One Observatory Park (building at Evans & University).  Just Qdoba at this time.
  • MY Denver Card provides Denver school-aged students ages 5 to 18 with free, year-round access to city recreation centers and swimming pools. It also serves as a Denver Public Library card. More info.
  • Observatoary Park Community Vegetable Garden Updates
    • Thank you to all the helped plant.
    • They are looking for volunteers to weed, watch and harvest.  Sign up or learn more.
  • The University Park Elementary 5th graders participated in the Project Citizen.  They worked to address the School Zone Safety. Check out their work.
  • Several high school graduations are being held  at DU this week and DU Commencement is June 8.  Watch added traffic.
  • Denver Parks and Recreation will offer swim lessons this summer.  Learn more.
  • DU students have put in a Xeriscaping project at 1985 S. High Street and have info for residents about xeriscaping.  Learn more.
  • The Teacher Development Program is looking for host families for adult Japanese high school teachers from July 27th –  September 7, 2013.  To learn more about the program contact director Kip Cheroutes at 303.382.4054 or [email protected].
